Tools and Resources

The Foundation believes strongly in the value of evaluation in helping to determine the focus areas and strategies we should hold as priorities. As such, we look to continually shape our work in accordance with the information provided through presentations, publications and articles published by innovative research and health-based organizations nationwide. In much the same way, the Foundation believes in sharing these resources with others interested in grant making or evaluation.

The American Evaluation Association
The American Evaluation Association’s (AEA) mission is to improve evaluation practices and methods, increase evaluation use, promote evaluation as a profession, and support the contribution of evaluation to the generation of theory and knowledge about effective human action. From publications to trainings, AEA has numerous resources on its website. Read more

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) are dedicated to protecting health and promoting quality of life through the prevention and control of disease, injury and disability. Online features include data and statistics, best practices, multimedia health features and information on public awareness campaigns. Read more

The Council on Foundations (COF)
The Council on Foundations (COF) is a membership organization that supports grantmakers in various aspects of foundation management. COF provides conferences and training in many areas of philanthropy, and also provides legal information relevant to the philanthropic field and publications covering topics like evaluation, effective grant making and ethics. The Foundation Center
The Foundation Center is a national nonprofit service organization recognized as the nation’s leading authority on organized philanthropy, connecting nonprofits and the grantmakers supporting them to tools they can use and information they can trust. Its website features a comprehensive directory of U.S. grantmakers and offers training in areas like fund raising, foundation management and proposal writing. Read more

Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO)
Grantmakers for Effective Organizations (GEO) is a coalition of grantmakers committed to building strong and effective nonprofit organizations. GEO offers seminars, conferences, publications and networking opportunities. Its website also features a comprehensive resource library covering a variety of topics relevant to philanthropy and the nonprofit sector. Read more

The Grants Managers Network (GMN)
The Grants Managers Network (GMN) improves grant making by advancing the knowledge, skills and abilities of grants management professionals and leading grantmakers to adopt and incorporate effective practices that benefit the philanthropic community. In addition to hosting an annual conference, the organization also offers resources related to staff training, grant-making practices and resource savings. Read more

Innovation Network (IN) is a nonprofit evaluation, research, and consulting firm, providing knowledge and expertise to help nonprofits and funders learn from their work to improve their results. It shares evaluation know-how through customized consulting and training services, research dissemination, and online tools and resources. The Institute of Medicine (IOM)
The Institute of Medicine (IOM) is the health arm of the National Academy of Sciences and strives to help those in government and the private sector make informed health decisions by providing evidence upon which they can rely. Through its research and reports, including many focusing on public health, IOM makes information on various topics publicly available. Read more

RTI International
RTI International is one of the world’s leading research institutes, dedicated to improving the human condition by turning knowledge into practice. Its research, including into areas of health behaviors and public health, has helped to inform the field about best practices. Read more

TCC Group
TCC Group provides strategic planning, program development, evaluation and management consulting services to foundations, nonprofit organizations, corporate community involvement programs, and government agencies. Among its publication topics is evaluation, and the organization provides resources on effective learning, sustainability and effective coalition building. Read more
