Most adults, including parents and caregivers, know by now smoking is bad for them. But, how many understand just how damaging their secondhand smoke can be to nearby children?

According to the Kansas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics (KAAP), not nearly enough.

Through funding provided by the Kansas Health Foundation’s Healthy Living Grant program, KAAP is working to change that. To do so, they’re going directly to the front lines of healthcare, and teaming up with the KU School of Medicine to work with their residency students.

The result? Pediatricians and staff throughout Kansas now have the capability to help parents and caregivers quit smoking – preserving their own health, as well as their child’s.
