During the 2018 KHF Symposium, a new demographics report was released showing the Kansas population is aging, moving to urban areas and becoming more diverse. The diversity aspect, in particular, holds many opportunities for the state, as the Latino population is expected to increase by 287 percent in the next 40 years.

Ernestor De La Rosa, a local government official in Dodge City, Kan., is just one example of someone who came to the U.S. as an immigrant, but has now become a fixture in his adopted home community.

“After completing college, I found myself in a position of leadership through the city of Dodge City,” De La Rosa said. “It’s been my mission since to meet the needs of my community and help those who find themselves in a similar situation.”
