Guiding policy efforts from ideas to agreed upon legislation can be intimidating for those not experiences in the political process.

But, according to several longtime statehouse observers, it all starts with respect and relationships.

“There’s no doubt today’s policymaking environment is challenging,” said Mike Matson, director of industry affairs and development for Kansas Farm Bureau. “People have to realize they may have differing ideas, but if they can all agree on the big picture goal of sound policymaking for Kansas, that’s when good things can happen.”
