Events Manager

This role is responsible for managing all aspects of events sponsored by the Kansas Health Foundation, creating environments that contribute to the success of meetings, and ensuring all participants have an experience consistent with the Foundation’s brand.

Background

KHF has significant convening power because of its credibility, statewide reach and resources. Our new strategic framework requires KHF to lean fully into this convening power. We’ll use it to help diverse and divergent Kansans find the common ground necessary to making transformative changes to community health and prosperity.

KHF’s partners include a range of organizations, coming from various sectors. The events manager will need to be willing and excited to create events and gatherings that cater to the diverse needs in the KHF network.

Events and gatherings hosted by KHF (and organized by the events manager) will range from large symposium-style events to intimate small group dinners. Participants could be non-profit partners, elected officials, business officials, grassroot advocates, members of faith communities, etc. Some events will be public. Others will be tailored for a specific audience. But all will need to be crafted and executed with the intentionality to bring out the best thinking, ideas and work of the participants.

This opportunity is for a detail-oriented, self-starter who has experience coordinating vendors, managing events, and creating high-caliber participant experiences. The ideal candidate should:

Job Responsibilities

  • Works closely with staff across the organization to create high quality environments for events hosted by the Kansas Health Foundation.
  • Engages with KHF team members to ensure every KHF event or gathering has a clearly defined purpose and objectives.
  • Works closely with the associate vice president in creating a standard of convening for all meetings that furthers the Foundation’s brand.
  • Develops a broad network of vendors (e.g., caterers and hotels) for event needs.
  • Manages all aspects of planning and executing events for the Foundation including scheduling, room set-ups, audio/visual coordination, arranging meals, lodging and staffing to ensure events run smoothly from conception to completion.
  • Keeps the team informed of event schedules and plans.

Qualifications

  • A combination of relevant work experience, training and educational coursework, or a bachelor’s degree in hospitality, marketing or communication-related field.
  • At least two years of related experience managing events and vendor relationships.
  • Proven interpersonal and communication skills with ability to work with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects at once and meet deadlines; significant attention to detail.
  • Proven ability to demonstrate a high degree of initiative and willingness to accept responsibility.
  • Proven ability to work with a team in a highly-collaborative environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully work under pressure to meet deadlines.
  • A professional and positive attitude.

Physical Requirements

  • Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
  • Ability to set-up and breakdown tables and other equipment related to events management and move objects up to 25 pounds.
