Building Power and Equity Partnership

As our goal to help Kansas lead the nation in health, we've formed a long-term partnership with 30 Kansas organizations to address issues of racial equity. These organizations span the state of Kansas and work directly with the communities experiencing the greatest health disparities.

Partnering deeply within communities

Meant to work closely and collaboratively with grassroots organizations and organizations with a stated mission to help address health disparities in Kansas. This initiative will mark the largest single investment focused on racial equity in KHF’s history, with a possible investment of $30 million during the next decade.

A key part of our community impact work is connecting directly with the communities experiencing the greatest health disparities. These communities, neighborhoods and zip codes experiencing health disparities are oftentimes communities of color within urban population centers, or rural communities experiencing an influx of diversity for the first time. To partner most effectively with these communities, we knew we needed to support organizations that had already built up trust with community members.

This desire led to the Building Power and Equity Partnership (BPEP) initiative and in January 2024, 30 organizations were announced as partners. The BPEP partners receive annual support through grant funding, but also receive coaching, networking, operational and personnel support. We believe assisting these 30 organizations with growing their power and influence will have a significant long-term impact by leading to better health outcomes.

We can’t thank these organizations enough for raising their hands and saying, 'Yes, I’m in, and I want to see a healthier, more equitable Kansas.'

This partnership marks the largest investment in racial equity in our history.
