Strategy #5

Overview

We consider our six key strategies to be the “how” of our work. The strategies represent both a guide for our work and our decision making.

The fifth strategy is:

  • Inspiring and aligning additional resources to focus on leading the nation in health.

Don’t misunderstand us: We are grateful and blessed to have the endowment we have. But, even if our $500+ million sounds like a lot (and yeah, it is a lot), it is drop in the bucket when it comes to what it will take to make real change happen on health outcomes. Our funds alone will not empower Kansas to lead the nation in health.

That’s why we need others to come alongside us and align their resources toward the same efforts where we’re investing. They don’t have to give the money to KHF. There are great organizations, many of whom we’re already partnering with, that are impactful 501(c)3 organizations and could use an infusion of funds to carry out the work.

Examples

When we announced hunger/food insecurity as our first major health challenge, multiple partners stepped up in a big way. From the private sector, Thrive Restaurant Group provided sizable funds early on to help with coordination and training. The United Methodist Health Ministry Fund has partnered with us and is supporting two local coalitions working at the community level to address food insecurity. Over time, this list will only grow!
