Cost of Care

Overview

In October 2025, the KHF Board of Directors voted to take on Cost of Care as our next major health challenge.

Every day, Kansans do not get the care they need due to worries about cost and affordability. According to the most recent America’s Health Rankings, more than 1 out of every 10 Kansas adults has avoided seeing a doctor when they need to in the past 12 months because they could not afford it.

Sometimes the cost of a doctor visit, medication, dental care, or specialist appointment feels too high. Other times, the challenge of finding transportation, taking time off work, arranging childcare, understanding insurance, or navigating a complicated system adds barriers.

We believe with a coordinated, multi-year effort from partners in the public, private and nonprofit sectors, we can make a difference on this issue. No Kansan should have to avoid needed care because of cost.
