Dr. Alicia Thompson joined the Kansas Health Foundation Board of Directors in 2024.
A lifelong educator, Dr. Thompson has spent her life working on behalf of students and their parents in Kansas communities. Her career culminated by serving as the superintendent for USD 259 Wichita Public School, the largest school district in Kansas, from 2017-2023. Prior to her time as superintendent, Dr. Thompson spent time as a teacher, administrator and assistant superintendent.
During her career, Dr. Thompson received numerous awards, including a Martin Luther King Jr. Education Award from the Urban League of Kansas, Person of the Year by the NAACP, a Young Black Achievers Award from Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority and a Literacy Champion Award from Storytime Village. She was also honored multiple times by the Wichita Business Journal as Executive of the Year, with a Leadership in Diversity Award, and as a Women In Business Honoree for both business and education.
Dr. Thompson has also been inducted into the Halls of Fame by both the W.G. Williams Community Foundation and the Wichita State University College of Applied Studies.
During her own educational journey, Dr. Thompson earned a bachelor of science degree from Langston University, and both a master of science and doctorate in educational leadership degrees from Wichita State University.
