Upward Mobility

OVERVIEW

When we talk about upward mobility, we mean the ability to stabilize, thrive, and make choices over time without losing connection to culture, community, or self.  We want every Kansan to have the opportunity to succeed, regardless of their starting point in life.

Upward mobility is shaped by many factors, including access to good jobs, pathways to careers, entrepreneurship supportsquality child care, affordable housing, opportunities to build wealth and climb out of debt and moreResearch shows that economic conditions are one of the strongest drivers of health outcomes.

At the Kansas Health Foundation (KHF), upward mobility is a health priority. Over the next several years, we are working with partners across the state through listening efforts, interviews, convenings, and grantmaking to support long-term, sustainable change. This page highlights what we’ve learned so far and what’s ahead.

MEDIA

More of a visual person? At these videos below, you can both see and hear how KHF thinks of upward mobility. The first video was taken at a music festival where people shared their “wish” for someone struggling to make ends meet. The second is a promo video on upward mobility shown at our annual HealthRise event.
