Mission

Spire Chamber Ensemble inspires, educates, and enriches the Kansas City metropolitan community through the transformational power of great choral music performed at the highest artistic level.

Spire Chamber Ensemble is a professional choral group of superb local, regional, and national artists from United States and Canada. Their commitment assures excellence:

• To offer rarely heard Baroque masterworks in collaboration with the Spire Baroque Orchestra
• To showcase unique repertoire for voices and organ
• To provide students a fresh experience with choral music through education outreach programs
• To honor the talents and contributions of American composers and be a catalyst for the creation of new compositions by this country’s composers

Spire Chamber Ensemble is a virtuoso choir and orchestra comprised of distinctive solo artists who are also committed to the highest level of ensemble performance. These musicians travel to Kansas City to perform together, providing audiences with a rare level of choral music-making found anywhere else in the country. The Spire Baroque Orchestra, encompassing the finest historical players, joins our world-class singers for concerts of unmatched artistic excellence. Established in 2010, Spire has quickly evolved into a national phenomenon, lauded for artistry, innovation and mastery at making music that matters to audiences throughout the country. Now in their 13th season, Spire is regarded as one of the preeminent choral-orchestral chamber ensembles in the United States. Led by Founder and Artistic Director Ben A. Spalding, Spire performs repertoire ranging from Baroque and Classical masterpieces with period instruments to newly commissioned works by Jake Runestad, Zachary Wadsworth, John Muehleisen, and James MacMillan.

The Spire Chamber Ensemble recognizes that barriers and biases prevent diverse populations from participating freely in all aspects of our organization. Our ADEI efforts work to identify, influence, and act on strategic opportunities to make the organization welcoming and accessible to musicians, audience members, educational partners, donors, staff members, and communities of diverse experiences.
